Why Meditate?
Oh we’ve all heard it - “Take time for you.” Who has time for that?
What if I told you that the time spent in a meditative state pays you back in dividends. Think of it this way, meditating is sort of like taking a few moments to clean up a work space before you get started. Obviously, a clean work space is going to help you focus on the important things, plus you won’t be distracted by the visual noise, and there will be more workable space. Meditation is no different: it’s like cleaning your mental workspace. How does it do that?
Meditation:
Reduces anxiety
Decreases feelings of stress
Lowers blood pressure and heart rate
Encourages emotional wellness
Improved concentration and attention
Promotes self-awareness.
It can be hard to get started, so don’t be hard on yourself. Aim for even 10 minutes a day. If you can, dedicate a space in your home or work, so that as you enter that space, you can shift mental gears. Many people who meditate on a regular basis invest in a meditation cushion. A meditation cushion is a special round cushion that is filled with buckwheat or something similar and is the right height to help align the hips and legs perfectly as you sit on the floor.
(Side note: we sell them in our boutique. The very first customer? A physiotherapist who couldn’t believe how perfectly it aligned her body.)
If you are just starting out, it might also be helpful to pay someone to teach you how to meditate for the first time. There are also a plethora of guided meditation videos on youtube that can help you find your groove.
